As the cycling community continues to grow in California, motorists must acknowledge their fellow travelers and share the road. Failure to comply with the law will result in fines up to $35 fine for a first offense, comments Mr. Brusavich.

“Plus, there's a legal presumption the motorist was responsible for any injury, the bicyclist can seek damages in a civil lawsuit as well,” he adds. California is the 22nd state to pass this type of law.
