Gardena, CA (August 30, 2020) – According to authorities, a woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision with an intoxicated driver on Saturday morning, August 29th. The accident was reported at the intersection of West Redondo Beach Boulevard and South Vermont Avenue in Gardena.
Police officials say that at around 11:50 a.m. the operator of a stolen Dodge pickup truck, identified as 19-year-old Isaiah Lono, of Hawthorne, was driving while intoxicated when he crashed into a Nissan Sentra at or near the intersection. Following the accident, Lono fled the area on foot and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.
Paramedics transported the female driver of the Sentra to Harbor UCLA Medical Center with major injuries. She was pronounced deceased a short time later. Police located Lono and placed him under arrest on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and homicide.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
