Pacoima, CA (August 2, 2020) – Officers with the California Highway Patrol reported on a fatal crash involving an intoxicated driver early on Saturday morning, August 1st. The accident was reported at around 2:35 a.m. on the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Pacoima neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to the CHP, 25-year-old Jorge Martin Martinez, of Los Angeles, was driving southbound on the freeway in a white 2012 GMC cargo van with one passenger when he approached the transition to the Hollywood (170) Freeway. Martinez veered off the roadway and crashed into a guardrail.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene where they located the van facing the wrong direction and one passenger trapped inside the wreckage. The victim was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center-Mission Hills. He was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Martinez suffered only minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of DUI among other charges. The incident remains under investigation.
