Los Angeles, CA (December 4, 2020) – An elderly man riding a scooter in Boyle Heights was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene of the collision. The incident occurred on the morning of December 4 around 10:35 a.m.
According to a statement provided by officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department, the man was attempting to cross Mott Street at Whittier Boulevard when he was hit by a compact SUV. The elderly man was struck by the vehicle and then dragged for about half a block. The driver stopped and with the help of a witness, dislodged the male pedestrian from the back of his vehicle. The SUV then left the scene.
First responders were called to assist at the crash site. The man who was struck by the SUV was transported to a nearby medical center in critical condition. He has not been identified to the public at this time. No other information has been reported.
The vehicle that struck the victim was described as a silver Mazda CX-5, according to the Los Angeles Central Traffic Division. The driver was described as a man in his 40's. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run suspect is asked to please call the Los Angeles Police Department at 213-626-LAPD.
