Long Beach, CA (July 2, 2020) – A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene on Wednesday night, July 1st. According to authorities, the fatal incident took place at the intersection of Willow Street and Delta Avenue in Long Beach at around 9:00 p.m.
Officers with the Long Beach Police Department said that the victim was crossing the intersection when an eastbound vehicle struck him and then left the area. Emergency responders arrived at the scene where the victim suffered multiple serious injuries. He was pronounced deceased a short time later.
One person who witnessed the collision followed the vehicle and was able to obtain the suspect's license plate information. LBPD officers located the vehicle at a nearby residence but no further information has been made available at this time.
An investigation into the events that led to this incident is ongoing.
