Alhambra, CA (June 22, 2020) – A vehicle that was making an unsafe lane change caused a chain-reaction crash that left a California Highway Patrol officer with major injuries. The incident happened at around 1:25 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, June 21st.
Authorities said that the officer involved had parked his vehicle behind a 2013 BMW on the right shoulder of the San Bernardino (10) Freeway westbound at New Avenue to conduct a traffic stop. A Scion FR-S then made an unsafe lane change and cut off a 2008 Toyota Rav4, forcing the 32-year-old female driver of the Toyota to strike the officer’s vehicle.
The impact of the collision forced the officer’s vehicle into the BMW. The officer was struck during the crash and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene. The 30-year-old officer was transported to County USC Medical Center with serious injuries.
Neither the identity nor the current condition of the victim has been reported. Officers are conducting an investigation into this incident.
Our thoughts are with the victim and their family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
