Long Beach, CA (October 14, 2020) – Early this past Tuesday morning, a woman lost her life as she was attempting to cross a freeway in Long Beach.

Police investigators stated that it appeared that the woman, who remains unidentified at this time, was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of the freeway in the early morning hours of October 13  when she was struck by multiple cars.

The contributing factors of the collision are being investigated by local law enforcement officials at this time.

The woman's body was located around 3:00 a.m. on the freeway near Pico Avenue under the Sixth Street Connector from the 710 southbound freeway.

Long Beach police viewed nearby surveillance footage as a part of their accident investigation which showed a woman matching the deceased victim's description walking along the side of the freeway at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The woman was estimated to be in her 30's but has not been identified.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim at this time.

Pedestrian Accidents in California

Approximately 900 people per year lose their lives in fatal pedestrian accidents in California. Thousands of other people are injured and forced to deal with potentially debilitating injuries. Pedestrians, being the most vulnerable travelers on the roadway at any given time, are at a greater risk of suffering serious injuries in traffic accidents such as broken bones, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and other life-altering injuries. More often than not, pedestrians injured in traffic accidents require extensive medical treatment.

Oftentimes, pedestrians require immediate transportation to the hospital where they require emergency surgery. Many pedestrians hurt in traffic collisions require lengthy hospital stays that can last for several days or weeks following their initial injuries. Once released from the hospital, they are often forced to spend time off of work to fully heal from their injuries, depending on their severity and nature. This can result in lost wages and as a result financial burdening and stress.

Pedestrians can take measures to protect themselves while traveling such as wearing light/reflective clothing and taking the time to make eye contact with drivers when possible. However, when negligence is a factor in an accident, Statistics show that nearly 80% of traffic-related incidents are caused by the negligent actions of drivers. If you have been injured in a crash as a result of a negligent or reckless driver, you are urged to reach out to a knowledgeable pedestrian accident attorney in California as soon as possible.
