Plane Crashes in California
Aviation travel is one of the most convenient and popular ways to travel distances too long to drive. In a highly-populated state such as California, traveling by plane is a very common way to get from point A to point B. This means that plane crashes are unfortunately rather common in California and across the United States. In 2018, the number of people who lost their lives due to aviation accidents increased by about 13%, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. Fatalities attributed to plane accidents in the US rose from 347 in 2017 to 393 in 2018. Approximately one aviation death per day occurred in 2018, according to this increase.
Aviation accidents may be rare compared to other types of accidents, but when they do occur they usually cause extreme personal injury or death to those involved. For the same reason that 18-wheeler truck accidents are much more dangerous to be involved in than a regular car accident, aviation accidents are usually more dangerous due to the enormous weight and size of the plane itself.
Unfortunately, the most common cause of aviation accidents today is a pilot error which accounts for nearly half of all plane crashes in the US. Being an airline pilot is among some of the most complex and difficult occupations available, which leaves a large margin for error. Although there are some worthy exceptions, almost 100% of the most common causes of aviation crashes include some form of negligence.
