Bicycle Accidents in California
On average, California sees approximately 11,000 injuries per year that result from bicycle accidents. Additionally, over 100 people lose their lives annually in these incidents. Bicycle accidents tend to be more injurious than other types of traffic accidents due to bicyclists' lack of protection from other larger, faster vehicles on the roadway. Bicyclists are some of the most vulnerable travelers present on the roadway at any given time, which means that awareness and caution should be taken at all costs when driving near them.
Drivers should always make eye contact with bicyclists and vice versa in the event that one needs to cross the other's path. Failure to make eye contact could result in a collision that could end in injuries or death for the bicyclist. In 2018, 155 people lost their lives due to California bicycle accidents, and 11,116 more were injured.
Usually, bicyclists injured in traffic collisions require immediate and emergency medical treatment that can cost a fortune. They may also lose time at work due to being hospitalized for their injuries, which can cause further financial burdening and stress.
