Redondo Beach, CA (September 24, 2020) – A teenager was hit by a car and killed on Thursday, September 24th as she attempted to retrieve some personal items from a vehicle that was disabled in the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway in a southwest area of Los Angeles.
Based on a report from the coroner's office, 19-year-old Ceilo Romero Rojas, a resident of San Pedro, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place at around 3:35 a.m. near Normandie Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Rojas had been a passenger in a 2005 Toyota that became disabled after being involved in an accident. She and the vehicle's driver initially exited the vehicle to wait for assistance on the right shoulder of the freeway. They then attempted to go back to Toyota in order to recover some personal possessions.
The two were standing on the driver's side of the disabled vehicle when Rojas was struck and killed by a 2004 Toyota driven by a 24-year-old woman from Santa Ana. She was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment of moderate injuries.
Her identity has not been released.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Ms. Celio Romero Rojas, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her family in hopes of a full recovery.
